Sensei Knighton

About Stan Knighton

Sensi KnightonStan started learning Karate in 1964 and was graded to black belt in 1969 by the Japanese instructors Sensei’s Tani and Kimura. Stan went on to compete at European and World level competition Karate and competed at the first World Karate Championships held in Tokyo in 1970. He was a member of the English and British National teams throughout the 1970’s and won the title of European Kumite Champion in 1977.
On retiring from competition Karate Stan concentrated on developing training systems so that other people could benefit from his experience and learn the exciting sport/art of Karate. During the 1990’s Stan was also involved at national multi style level in the roles of Chairman of both the English and British Karate governing bodies. He was Chairman of the English Karate Governing Body from 1992 to 1998.
Stan was also a founder member of the Shukokai Karate Union (SKU) which was established in 1969 and he is currently Chairman and Chief Instructor of the SKU. The SKU is one of the oldest Karate organisations in Britain and has a long history for producing Karate excellence. www.sku.org.uk
Stan now holds a 9th Dan black belt and concentrates on training SKU instructors, future black belts and helping beginners to quickly learn Karate Do (the way of the empty hand)
